Day 34 - Hilden, Nova Scotia

Off we go again on this 3rd day of July.  It was an easy l52 mile travel day.  Nothing to exciting but it was sunny and we were able to enjoy the countryside.  Once we arrived in Nova Scotia, it was all forest along the road and rolling hills.   Didn't see any coastline at all - darn!

Before we crossed the bridge again from PEI, we saw fields and fields of Canola.  Couldn't resist taking a dozen pictures.  Consider yourself lucky that I didn't make 3 collages just of these beautiful yellow fields.

On our way through Springhill, Nova Scotia, we stopped at the Anne Murray Centre.  Let me tell you, they did a great job putting all her memorabilia together.  I always liked her but had no idea how many gold records and awards she received throughout her career.  The article in the newspaper was when she played Carnegie Hall.  She joked with the audience that she thought she actually "made it" since she was performing there.  She gave out a rose to all the women that were there.  The audience acknowledged her with applause throughout most of her performance that it brought her to tears.  She actually had a hard time singing and at the end of the show, she went into her dressing room and just cried.  She had no idea she was going to be so accepted.  The people there knew all the words to her songs which totally amazed her.

These are just some of the Gold Records as there were walls and walls of them.  She rec'd a hockey stick from Gordie Howe that said "From one of your many Fans".  She had displayed many notes and letters from various entertainers as well as Presidents and even pictured with Queen Elizabeth.  The bottom left is a picture of her carrying the Olympic Flag.  Some of her outfits were on display as well as various awards such as the Country Music News Award for "Singer of the Year".   They had music playing throughout the centre which made me want to get out my old albums, but they were at home.  A little family info:   She retired in 2009 and lives outside Toronto as does her daughter.  They both return to this area during the summer. She has been divorced for about 20 years and has never remarried (who husband did).  Dawn, her daughter, no longer sings - is an artist now, and is not married.   Not much is mentioned about her son - he is just doing his own thing but recently married.  I'm sure this is more than you wanted to hear about Ann Murray - sorry!!!

Top right picture is pretty much the scenery we saw once we arrived in this Province.  Thank goodness there were no fires in these woods.  The Hilden Fire Brigade made dinner for us.  The money helps to support them.  Bruce and I snuck into the garage and took a couple pictures of their equipment.  Two of the volunteer fireman - super nice guys and great cooks.  It didn't take long for us to chow down on the great meal of pork chops.  Like that wasn't enough, we had homemade strawberry shortcake - oh yeah!!!  The wasteline continues to expand.

Picture of the Day - Future Fire Chief

Once the guys saw this picture, they said I would make Chief if I stayed for their meeting or was it washed the dishes?  I opted to leave before any of that happened!!  It was all in good fun..

Hope you had a great day, especially my Birthday Girl, Dawn.  Have an adventurous day planned for tomorrow.  If I survive, you will hear all about it.  Hope you all have a very
HAPPY 4TH OF JULY!!!!  Be safe with the fireworks!!!
