Day 40 - Halifax, Nova Scotia

Don't get too comfortable as I'm going to give you a reprieve - short blog.!!! Yeah...

We've been very fortunate with our weather here in Nova Scotia and today, Monday, July 9th, is no different. The Staff had coffee and treats for us this morning prior to our Travel Meeting.  Most people took off for Halifax first thing; however, we stayed and toured the Fisheries Museum again as we had to leave for the Tattoo yesterday and didn't see it all.  The staff there was very friendly and informative.  I never knew there was that much to know about fishing and boats.

We were surprised to hear stories about the young fisherman - as young as ten years old - being part of the crew.  A lot of them couldn't swim nor could a lot of the older men.  The women had their hands full raising their families and taking care of the house since their men were gone at sea for so long.  They were a tough group of people.

One thing women did was a lot of quilting.  Here is an example of one of the many quilts we saw.  They made use of every scrap of material.

I won't go into a lot of detail about the fisherman as I've already written a lot about them as well as their boats.

Would you believe this is a jaw of a whale?  Bruce is 6' tall so you can figure it out for yourself as to the size.  "HUGE"

After walking around for a while, we headed back to the campground to hook up as the Tail Gunner's were waiting for us to leave for Halifax.  It was an uneventful trip.  Did some shopping, washed and cleaned up the Jeep, had Happy Hour and we all pitched in for a Potluck Dinner.  For a bit of fun, the Staff played Bingo and would you believe Bruce actually won one game - a figurine of a lighthouse.  That's a first!!!

Take advantage of this short day as tomorrow will be another story as we will be on a bus touring the city.  Lot to see in Halifax.  Take Care and Have a Good Night!!!
