Day 42 - Halifax, Nova Scotia

After a Staff prepared breakfast and travel meeting today, Wednesday, July 11, we drove back into town with Patty and Rod.  Everyone was doing their own thing as it was a Free Day.  Bruce and I had so much fun yesterday, that we knew we wanted to go back and do more sightseeing and walking on the boardwalk especially since we had another big breakfast.

We took a tour of the Alexander Keith’s Brewery.  It was one of the most unusual tours of a brewery we’ve ever done.  The tour guides were all in costume and speaking as if we were back in the days when the brewery was first started.  Very entertaining.  They really didn’t tell us that much about brewing beer but more about the history.  We did get free beer at the end as well as more entertainment of music, song and games.

We then took a ride on the Sailboat and were able to do a little "hands on" helping the crew raise the sails.  We were probably more trouble than what we were worth, but they asked!!!  Now I can appreciate all that Michael, our son-in-law, does while crewing on a sailboat. It was a beautiful sunny warm day so it was perfect for a cruise.  Bruce saw an Eagle on top of the roof on the island which is very rare for this area.

There were plenty of other boats out on the water.  Our friends took another tour boat shortly after we did, so we saw them coming in.  A portion of the skyline in the bottom corner picture.  The city doesn’t seem very big but it does stretch out a ways.

We toured the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic – very very impressive collection totalling 26,000 objects.    They had more model ships than any of us have ever seen in one place.   Anything and everything that has to do with boats, fishing, lighthouses, Titanic, etc. etc was there.  I think you could spend the entire day there if you wanted to see everything and read about what you saw.  The boards, I believe, are replica’s of a banister from the Titanic.

After walking and walking some more, we found a neat restaurant and had dinner outside with all the other people enjoying the outdoors.  Good drinks and great food.  It was a super day but then I got back and realized I had two days of my blog to do.  Unfortunately, the Wifi isn’t connecting so I’m doing a draft in documents so all I’ll need to do is cut and paste as soon as I can get a connection.   Well, it isn’t quite that easy but it will help.

Picture of the Day!

As we were eating dinner, we looked up at the top of a building and noticed this windvane - typical for this part of the country with the sailboat.

Hope you all had a great day and were able to enjoy some fun in the sun.
