Day 3 - Columbus to Gettysburg

It is Saturday, June 2 and the sun is finally showing itself - Thank You Lord!!    The scenery was just lovely but a lot of hills - down grades sometimes as much as 10%.

Driving narrow roads and through tunnels - where is Bruce when I need him?

We were driving 340 miles to Gettysburg and had no plans to stop until we saw a sign on the side of the road "Flight 93 Memorial".  We had no idea we were so close.  Needless to say we drove out to the sight of the crash of September ll, 2001 in Shanksville, Pa.  It is a memorial to the 40 Passengers and crew as well as their final resting place - their remains are still present.  It is bordered by the Memorial Plaza and Hemlock Grove beyond.  I'm enclosing some pictures; however, you can go to several websites on the internet where they will explain and show you more.   They are still planning to do more work but the grounds will be natural w/wild flowers and tons of trees.  A Tower of Voices, w/40 wind chimes is planned as well as Field of Honor, w/future 40 memorial groves.  It is something I hope you all get to visit one day.  I took many pictures but the websites are better.  www.nps.gov/flni and www.honorflight93.org.

We finally drove into Gettysburg at 6 p.m. and Wow!!!  There are going to be tons of things to see for the next couple days.  There are monuments everywhere in the fields and on the streets. The town looks like great fun w/shops, restaurants, pubs, etc.  I'm so glad Bruce suggested coming here.  Hopefully, it will be a sunny warm day.
