Days 13, 14 and 15 - Massachusetts & Maine

Again, we haven't had Wifi so I'm going to put three days into one blog.

Tuesday, June 12, and Wednesday June l3 – A cool misty day leaving New York City.  If you are a nervous driver, you don’t want to be driving here.  I don’t believe I could have driven the RV here as the lanes seems narrower especially with all the truckers.  At one point, our mirror was only inches away from a truck’s mirror – very scary.  The people driving cars are equally as crazy zipping in and out of the traffic.  We finally got out unscathed – thank you Lord!!

Most of our drive today was uneventful.  We did stop at the Yankee Candle Village Store.   We were in there for over an hour and didn’t see it all.  The candles and all the many different scents were absolutely endless; however, they also carried food products, oils, purses, hats, cafes, etc.  They also had the most amazing Christmas Shop.  Entire villages covering an entire wall all lite up, beautiful ornaments and trees like I’ve never seen before and I’ve been in a lot of Christmas stores.  The ornaments were quite expensive – darn!!

You can make your own candles or, of course, buy them.

Our reason for heading in this direction was to meet up w/friends of ours from Mesa, Beverly and Buck.  They live in the mountains of Massachusetts.  I felt like I was on Walton’s Mountain – very beautiful.  After a tour of their house that they built themselves from trees in the area, we had a delicious dinner  - topped off with a pie that Bev also made.  So much for the wasteline!  We had a great time driving around the area and just talking.  We finally called it a night about l0:30.

Beverly & Buck at their house plus an old truck that I'm sure is a favorite.

The area we covered was much like what I thought it would be – very woodsy, old homes and red barns.  Most buildings have been restored – a lot of work for sure – but well worth it in the end.
We decided to spend a night in Raymond, New Hampshire at Pine Acres Resort.  Let me tell you it was one of the worst experiences we’ve ever had since we started RV’g.  The guy behind the desk wasn’t too sharp to begin with.  He then leads us to our site in a Jeep toward the back of the campground.   The path wasn’t any wider than our RV in between trees at every turn.  I was driving the Jeep behind Bruce and I couldn’t believe all the branches and small trees that were hitting the RV, the back of the rig was only inches away of trees.  The guy expected Bruce to back into a site that was only big enough for a tent.  We agreed to get out of Dodge and had the guide drive us back out.  We would never have found our way out as it was in the middle of a jungle.  There were no other rigs our size.  The guy then tells us he didn’t have authority to reverse our credit. It was absolutely crazy and I just started screaming at the idiot guy, as he was so incompetent.   In calling the company, the people there couldn’t find our reservation because our name was misspelled.  For all our RV friends, “DO NOT” go to this campground if you are traveling in New Hampshire.  It was a Passport Campground.  Bad Bad Bad.  We finally just pulled into a Wal-Mart parking lot and had one of the largest drinks as we both needed it.  Again, Bruce did a tremendous job driving – my hero!!   Anyway…..  (I’m still trying to calm down).

Thursday, June l4 and we are finally in Maine to begin our Caravan.  It was another uneventful day so just a few pictures taken at LL Bean Village.  Most of the town of Freeport consists of outlet stores.  We walked around and nothing jumped out at us so we had lunch and were on our way again.  We arrived at our campsite and found that a lot of people taking the caravan are already here and just in time for Happy Hour.

We are now sitting with Rod and Patty, our friends from Mesa, having a cup of coffee and sharing our stories and adventures from these past couple weeks.  Hope all is well with you, our friends and family. We love and miss you all. Big Hugs!!
